About this experiment
This verifier is part of an ongoing research project. It is a prototype, so expect it to get things wrong from time to time, and please don't use its answers for anything that matters.
How it works
We start from where you say you are: by default the location of your IP address, or your browser's position if you share it. Your browser then sends a handful of small requests to servers around that location, and we compare how long they take with how long they should take from there.
What we keep
For each verification we keep the servers that were measured and the round-trip times to them, along with the city of your IP address and, if you shared it, the city of your browser's position. Nothing more precise than the city is recorded.
What we don't keep
We don't store your IP address. We only use it while the verification is running, to limit how many verifications can be made per hour, to find which network you are on, and to get a first location. There is no account and no cookie, so two verifications can't be linked to the same person.
